01 — What they are
What are cold sparks?
They are machines that throw a jet of coloured sparks a few metres high. What looks like “fire” is metal particles that ignite and cool within a few centimetres of the nozzle, so at the distance the manufacturer specifies they do not burn skin the way a sparkler or a firework would.
They are triggered by remote or DMX from the tech desk, with adjustable duration and height, and shut off instantly. Being able to start and cut on cue is what sets them apart from traditional pyrotechnics.
Mallorca tip
“Cold” describes the spark temperature at distance, not an absence of risk. They are still an effect with ignition and need the same precautions as any special effect.
